These photos were taken to graphically pinpoint the feeling of overwhelming helplessness. The artist obtained the images by scanning her body over and over on top of the scanner in a dark room shortly after learning that a friend of hers, at the young age of 24, had suffered a sudden aneurysm from which he immediately died. The action of moving while a scan is in progress creates the illusion of being under water, which the artist used to her advantage in this project, to simulate a suffocation or a drowning, sensations similar to the inevitable helplessness one feels towards death.
